The Patrick Administration has promoted the development of green technology as an environmental and economic development strategy. This new policy priority is consistent with the MetroFuture Plan, which provides for an overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and robust economic growth related to the development of green technology.
What policy steps are necessary to increase the development of green technology in our cities and towns?
What cities/towns or private sector entities are promoting green technology?
How can those practices be duplicated across the region?

Implementation Strategy Question - Promoting the New England Town Center
In order to achieve the MetroFuture:Making a Greater Boston Region plan (see MetroFuture.org for more detail on scenario) , we must concentrate development in city and town centers to
1) provide the necesary density to support transit service and walkable communities,
2) minimize open space lost from sprawl, and
3) place people's jobs and homes closer together to reduce time spent in traffic.
What are the barriers to concentrating development in city and towns centers, and what strategies do we need to overcome those barriers?
What creative tools do we need to invest in infrastructure in city and town centers to allow for additional concentrated mixed use development?

Metro Future Implementation Strategy
As required by statute, MAPC is in the process of creating a regional plan for the Metropolitan Boston area. After much study and public input, we are happy to announce a new and anticipated phase of MetroFuture: developing an implementation strategy to achieve the vision that residents of the region prefer. As part of that effort, MAPC is seeking out practitioners and advocates to help craft recommendations that would implement the plan. These recommendations will create a roadmap for advocacy for years to come. We welcome you to participate and advance this important initiative to make a greater Boston region.
This blog will give interested participants an opportunity to react to questions posed by MetroFuture participants regarding suggested implementation strategies. In addition, please feel free to ask questions for other participants to respond to in order to advance strategies to implement a more sustainable future.
If you have any questions about MetroFuture Implementation Strategy Development, please contact Sean Caron at scaron@mapc.org or visit metrofuture.org.
Thank you and we look forward to an active discussion.
Sincerely,
MAPC's MetroFuture Team
